Good evening,
……A special greeting goes to the director of ICUC Drs. Paul van Bladel, Rector Magnificus Professor Valdemar Marcha, Chairmain of the ICUC Drs. Rudy Naaldijk, board members Professor Gilbert Cijntje and Mr. Sidney Justiana.
My name is Marjorie Ione Green. It is an honor and a pleasure this evening for me as the first graduate of the faculty of Financial Management - program HBO Accountancy of the ICUC, to express a few words to you, distinguished guest.
First of all I would like to thank God almighty, for granting me the knowledge, wisdom and perseverance to accomplish this feat. Second, a word of thanks to my mentors and family, whom bore with me during this challenging period.
You are kindly requested to bear with me tonight, for I am not a gifted speaker. The program manager of the Center Accounting Studies literally pleaded me to deliver this speech tonight.
I can still see myself, ….on my bed just 4 years ago, enjoying myself with my favorite programs NCIS, CSI Miami and Criminal Minds. Suddenly my elder sister calls and inform me of an accounting program on the level of HBO, at the ICUC. An introductory meeting would be held that very same week and I was literally “summoned” by my sister to attend.
At first, as you can imagine I was totally uninterested, I offered ALL the excuses in the book, but amazingly she had an answer c.q. a solution to ALL obstacles that I presented. She even offered to “babysit” in order to give me the opportunity to attend the classes.
Long story short…..here I am tonight, …..4 years later on the speaker stand delivering this speech to you. Thank you Joyce! I love you, thank you for your “nagging” and insistence……it was WORTH the effort! We will celebrate after this with a strong Mojito!
Life ….is all about making the right choices and having options….! Tonight I can say that I have definitely made the right choice to enroll in the accountancy program offered by ICUC. I would wholeheartedly recommend ICUC to anyone who is willing to continue their studies on the level of HBO or Master.
Every day was not the same, there were rough days, there were tears drops, there were desperate moments and there were exciting days. With just some persistence and focus….., I can proudly say tonight that I have succeeded, a working mother of three, and believe me……..If I can do it…. so can you!
I would like to thank my daughters for their understanding and patience, when I couldn’t give them their full attention as they deserve. A special thanks is extended to my beloved partner, whom was very supportive during these years. A special thanks is also extended to all my friends and other relatives….without your support it would have been much more difficult to finalize this program….
To my fellow classmates and to my daughters I would like to say: live up to your dream….remember SKY IS THE LIMIT….reach for your FULL potential, no matter what challenges lie ahead of you. What I am asking each of you is to meet those challenges HEAD ON….always with your head held high and your heart wide open! Excel in ALL that you do and ALWAYS ALWAYS strive for excellence! Hard work does pay off…….
To my teachers/ professionals…… thank you for sharing your time and knowledge with us. You knew how to keep the classes interested especially after a long day of work when you just want to get home and take a warm shower……you are truly gifted! Some of you went beyond your call of duty to make sure that we were ready for every exam …..thank you!
A very very warm note of appreciation goes out to Mrs. Tisma for supporting me for these last four years with every annoying question and frustration that I had. Bravo! Thank you Tis.
ICUC has set the bar high…. and challenged every student to live up to it. …..Knowing my sister I can proudly say tonight, …..ICUC……. you hasn’t seen the last of me……, I still have some challenges to live up to.
